Forum has been updated to PHPBB 3.2

Post by RogerClark » Sun Jun 18, 2017 3:46 am

I finally managed to get the site to update to the latest version of PHPBB (V3.2)

This has taken longer than I anticipated, as the first 2 update attemps failed because the version of PHP on the server was too low (V5.3 instead of V5.6)

Then running the update script file package also failed to update the DB despite it claiming to have successfully updated the DB

Eventually on about the 6th attempt by doing a virtual clean install, (but keeping the uploaded files), it finally appears to have worked.

I then had to update the theme, as its modified very slight from the default, as I changed the logo (and the logo is a different size to the default logo)
But I find it better just to modify the default theme each time, rather than trying to save a modified theme and then hoping the new version will work with the old theme

I can see a few visual difference to the icons etc, but a full list of whats new in 3.2 https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=2399606

It seems to work flawlessy. Cleaning cache was mandatory, the first time I got a page full of garbage, full of icons and all menu opened.

I got the page of garbage as well, and I've also had a report of not being able to post. But clearing the cache seems to fix both problems.

I've no idea why the cache needs to be cleared, as its not in the PHPBB docs; but simply something I found I needed to do.

For what its worth, I cleared site cookies, but nothing else and it all seems to work perfectly for me.

Thanks Andy

I had complete pages of garbage ( repeating icons) until I cleared the cache.

I've neither cleared cache or cookies, and didn't saw any issues ...

I cleared cache in two windows PC and a chrome clone. Now I am using Firefox on Android and it worked without clearing anything.

Yeah i had the pages of garbage as well... Sadly I cant delete my cache right now... However the site is loading correctly for me now. Maybe the pesky cookie/file that was holding the old css/php/stuff file was replaced now.....

Anyway glad to see the explanation.

I'm seeing some icon alignment problems, on the page numbers, using FireFox.

But as I'm running an unmodified version of PHPBB, this must be a fault that everyone using firefox is seeing.

I will try on Chrome when I get chance

Attaching INO files directly without renaming is also possible now.
