stm32 car fuel injection ecu

Post by ag123 » Tue Jun 06, 2017 5:46 pm

this 'mod' is probably *illegal* in some countries / jurisdictions but would anyone bother to run a 'self created' stm32 car fuel injection ecu? you could probably 'optimise' the fuel - oxygen ratios in the most complicated ways ever, max fuel efficiency, max power or max machine learning autotune and you can graph the 3d oxygen vs fuel vs engine power on an ili9341

Do you know about the speeduino project? https://speeduino.com/wiki/index.php/Speeduino
The official firmware runs on AVR atmega2560, the official hardware is an Arduino Mega 'shield', and it's very capable even at 8bit 16mhz  . Software used with it is TunerStudio - which is designed for MegaSquirt.
There are loads of custom designs - single board ecu with integrated atmega2560, single layer version, miniaturised SMD versions, through-hole versions, etc etc - they're all currently in development too.
I'm sure you could port the code to the STM32 without too much difficulty, but i don't think you'd gain much from doing so.
It would be much better for the STM32 to handle display/gui stuff and speak to the ecu via rs232/can

Maybe it can be useful for model cars?

what happens when they take the car for an 'Official Test' ?
oh hang on, in europe the manufacturers have a special mode for the mpg and pollution checks. :o

I once had a discussion about this with a guy who as a hobby did tractor pulling. They were now hoping to find someone who could help them make or reprogram an ECU to maximize power, and screw everything else XD.
It sounds like a fun project, but probably not quite friendly to nature XD.
I think one of the things they wanted to do was also inject fuel during the stage where the cylinder is about to push out the exhaust gasses, not expecting it to combust ofcourse, but just as an extra way of cooling the motor XD. (don't want to know what the exhaust of those machines is like XD)

grey to black and potentially explosive :?: :D

oops i forget about this thread, but speeduino do look pretty interesting & possibly fun, but do agree that if things go wrong it may be possibly explosive
stm32 given its speed vs atmega would likely run both the engine & show you all the graphs e.g. fuel economy on an lcd while the car is running. you could even hack an odb II into it so that you could have a different stm32 running the graphics while the 'main' stm32 runs the ecu & do odb II
but i'd guess u'd better be sure it is *bug free* before putting it on the road
