FYI: CH340 CH341 serial adapters on macOS 10.12 Sierra

Post by Kenjutsu » Fri Jan 06, 2017 2:19 pm

I recently updated to macOS Sierra 10.12.2, and each time I plugged in a serial to usb adapter or board with a CH340/341 chip (NodeMCU/Wemos D1 mini, etc), I would get a kernel panic in the driver. This site: CH340 CH341 serial adapters on macOS 10.12 Sierra explains the problem, and contains a link to a driver that now works ;)

Thanks.

MacOS Sierra seems to have lots of problems with USB hardware.

It needs a longer USB reset pulse as well.

I know this topic is quite old, but I've recently bought the CH341 eeprom programmer board and managed to find some new drivers dated just 5 days after this topic has been started. Here's the URL on the manufacturer's website where they post the refreshed mac drivers:

This version didn't cause any panic or something. I have all the OS X security options disabled, though. I'll try to test in on vanilla Sierra VMachine and update with results, but the driver seems to be signed and should not introduce any difficulties.
