Pi4 has got a new 8GB version, and more importantly 64 bit OS ;)

it seem to be something to try out, it is Beta though,

I've tested it, so updated to the new beta pieeprom, and installed the latest firmware.
The boot seems to work very well and very fast on USB 3.0 port, without any microSD card. The UAS and TRIM are active, so there are no negative effects.
My USB to SATA adapter is ASMedia 1351, and the 2TB HDD has a GPT partition table with hybrid MBR.
Microcenter locally has no availability ... but the rPi4_4G is on sale for $49.99
For many, the 2G version at the $35 price point is a great buy. A 240G SSD is only $29.99, so with the boot to USB bootloader, a small home network server with reasonable capacity is under $100 USD complete.

Raspberry Pi foundation recently released quite a few interesting products

this high quality camera mount and sensor left me drooling

8GB seem a little overwhelming for Pi4 but i think given the applications these days, 8GB would after all find good use.

there is another thing as well, increasingly i'm thinking that the little stm32 pill boards etc makes good peripherals to pair up with a Pi.
in the simplest form it can simply be usb-serial, but increasingly it is possible to interface it directly on the Pi gpio pins using SPI etc.

one of the things i rather like is the addition of a full 64 bits Raspbian distribution. it seemed appropriate to run that on the Pi4.
It is in beta now though, not ready for prime time.

One of the things I have done is to use a "pill" to 'autotype' console commands:

https://www.hackster.io/rayburne/joysti ... dio-452602 STM32 Maple Mini clone
https://www.hackster.io/rayburne/rpi-se ... ino-355525 AVR atmega328p-PU

Working at the console level avoids the need for a GUI and GUI apps. And, the 'pill board' can be full-duplex comm as the first link explains: I parse the song playing on the display powered by Arduino.

one of those things about pi is the availability of low cost cameras (rather sensors)
i'm not sure about their quality but i ordered 2 out of curiosity, hopefully that they work or that i can use it elsewhere

using this in combination with say the pill boards, it may make possible some rather interesting automation

after all the advances in computer vision on pi has improved by leaps and bounds

https://towardsdatascience.com/how-to-s ... 503c46c7f9

but i'm not sure if those cheap cameras is adequate for the task

well that's ok, because the cpu probably couldn't catch up
