While the LeafLabs' Maple was a fantastic development when released, the dedicated, hacked, pre-ArduinoIDE version 1.0 software was a hack. Moving beyond this constraint and making the core 1.5x ArduinoIDE compatible was the work of many people, but Roger (IMO) deserves to be first in that list because he put his time and money into hosting and evolving the original STM32duino forum. Most of that info through 1Q2019 is available in the above links I provided.

But, for a couple of years, I have been vocal about all (mostly all) Roger's core users migrating to the STM Official core.
Please consider migrating, you will be well served by dropping the monolithic and aging Roger's core if you are doing anything serious with your STM32 uC.

i think both the 'old' libmaple core and the official core can co-exist. they have different 'features' literally. as the design objectives has evolved to be different e.g. libmaple is going more towards 'fit' to a particular mcu - hence it is 'thinner and lighter' and sacrificing portability while the official core is tailored more towards supporting the stm32 family of mcus, so the official core has much broader use

another thing i liked about stm32 family of mcus at least from m3 up is they are native generic usb devices
though other mcu families e.g. nxp, freescale, ti etc have pretty much the same things
the other thing is the well written verbose reference manuals.
there are a lot of arm derivatives not from the big names the likes of ti, st, nxp et.al that hardly even release their reference manuals in public. some my guess may even requires nda just to get the reference manuals if they are even available at all.

Thanks for bringing back a forum, on this url, and officially recognised by ST.

I'd sort of guessed but wasn't sure - it was necessary to register again. I used the same username as last time, which didn't cause a problem because the forum didn't have any memory of me....

It might be worth mentioning this need to register again, in the first post, to reduce the confusion a little.
